Members of South Highland are looking forward to welcoming visitors from Taos, New Mexico’s Social Justice Book Club, led by Elise Waters Olonia, daughter of Rev. Dr. Dana Waters, to kick off a weeklong “Journey to Truth” as they explore educational activities, service projects and conversations in Birmingham and Montgomery.
On Sunday, October 13 we will greet them at our 11:00 a.m. worship service. Following other activities in Birmingham, on Monday evening October 14 we will host a panel discussion open to all in the SHPC Auditorium from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. The topic of the discussion will be “Civil Rights, Then and Now.” The panel will include:
- Debra Love – Founder and President of E3 Solutions, Inc.
- Rev. James Ephraim – Retired Presbyterian Pastor
- Dr. Lonnie Hannon – UAB Associate Professor
- Artie C. Nelson, M.D. – Psychiatrist/Generational Trauma
This free event is open to the public. Entrance to the event will be through the porte cochère in the church’s parking lot on 13th Avenue South at Richard Arrington, Jr. Blvd.
