Babylonian king Nebuchadnezzar brought the best and the brightest youths of the conquered Judeans to Babylon to learn the language, the literature, and the customs of the Babylonians. Daniel and his three friends pushed back, even under the real threat of painful death. Through his faithfulness, Daniel rose to prominence in the Babylonian kingdom, serving as a witness to the one true God to the kings and officials of this pagan land as well as to his fellow Israelites living in captivity. The Marketplace Sunday School class will explore and attempt to emulate how to live righteous lives amid a culture that lures us to abandon the precepts of godliness to pursue self-centered comforts.

Whether you’re a seeker, a questioner or longtime churchgoer, already in a class or want to try a different one, this new study welcomes you. Marketplace People is a multi-generational group that uses inductive Bible study first to see what the Bible says, then to discern through the Holy Spirit what the passage means, and finally to investigate how to apply those truths to our lives. All are welcome to attend and encouraged to participate. The class meets in person and via Zoom, which is perfect for those traveling or who just want to attend occasionally.

“In our own woundedness, we can become a source of life for others.”

In his hope-filled and profoundly simple book The Wounded Healer, Henri Nouwen offers a radically fresh interpretation of how we can best serve others. Here he inspires devoted men and women who want to be of service in their church or community, but who have found some traditional practices of outreach alienating and ineffective. Nouwen has come up with a balanced and creative theology of service that begins with the realization of fundamental woundedness to human nature. This book is a thoughtful and insightful guide that will be welcomed by anyone engaged in the service of others. This multi-generational class welcomes participants of all ages and stages.

Making a Home for Faith | Room G16

In Ephesians: The Inheritance We Have In Christ, Dr. David Jeremiah shows us how Paul saw an opportunity to advance the kingdom of God by walking believers through their spiritual inheritance in Christ. Paul encourages the church to “walk worthy of their calling,” understand and use their spiritual gifts, and put on the armor of God. Books are available in class.
