Life

At South Highland we challenge ourselves and others to grow spiritually through worship, education, nurture, discussion, fellowship, and evangelism, and also to seek the guidance of the Holy Spirit in prayers, works, and actions to strengthen our saving faith. South Highland seeks to help everyone in our church family to develop a basic knowledge and experience of the Christian faith and biblical heritage and to understand that we are children of God and Disciples of Christ. A Disciple is a learner. All Disciples, of all ages, need to continue to learn. God expects this of us. We hope you find a way for you and your family to be involved in study.

“Let us consider how to spur one another on toward love and good deeds.” Hebrews 10:24

Often with new member classes, we define active membership at South Highland as “Worship Plus Two.” It is a simple way of encouraging a vital and growing faith in Jesus Christ. Worship Regularly + One Growth + One Service. An active member worships regularly with God’s people. God is worthy of our worship. Sometimes we are tempted to wonder “what do I get out of worship?” God gives grace gifts for us in Word and Sacrament, but our primary purpose is to give God the worship He deserves. Active members engage in one activity that helps them to grow in their love and knowledge of the Lord Jesus. This may be a Sunday School class, small group, or participation in Wednesday evening studies. We deepen our faith in these settings. An active member engages in one activity of serving others. We each have our small part to play. Some serve others in our life together as a church – Sunday School teachers, Good Samaritan, kitchen workers, bulletin folders, etc. Some serve others outside the church – legal work for the poor, overseas mission, neighborhood revitalization, care for the mentally ill, etc. Every member has a calling to serve someone else in some way.

Let’s continue to spur one another on toward love and good deeds!
