Habitat for Humanity

South Highland has served Habitat for Humanity for over 25 years. Teams of SHPC volunteers join the crew to build affordable housing for low-income families. Please read the details on this year’s project. If you have further questions, contact Don Koch or Bill Stribling, or click here to sign up.

Info on the Spring 2025 Build

This year’s Habitat build is for Jasmine Jones and her daughter, Emily, at 4016 Morninghope Drive in Bessemer.

We are looking for a group of volunteers for Saturday, May 17, and another Saturday late in May or early in June. Men, woman and youth 16 and older are welcome and needed.

The home site is in a brand new subdivision that isn’t yet on Google Maps. If using Google Maps, use 6041 Hopewell Road, Bessemer 35022 and follow the blue Habitat flags. (see map below) If using Apple Maps, you can enter the actual address, 4016 Morninghope Drive.

Habitat will provide bottled water and a portable toilet. Volunteers provide their own lunches; there aren’t any restaurants close by, so you may consider bringing your own and maybe a folding camp chair if you wish. Habitat will provide tools, hard hats and safety glasses, but you can bring your own if you prefer. Also, since splinters don’t feel very good, be sure to bring work gloves. Wear closed-toe, sturdy shoes. And, wear clothes you don’t mind being “decorated” by paint or foam sealer.
