In 2009, South Highland began supporting an orphanage in Zimbabwe called the Lovemore Home, through the Outreach Foundation of the PC (USA). Due to economic and other factors, the home was forced to close in 2014, leaving many young people in a difficult situation. But our church was able to maintain contact with some of the boys, following and supporting their progress through the educational system. The letter below, sent to South Highlander Lee Cooper, is from one of the young men whose heart and spirit of gratitude are such a blessing.
Dear Auntie Lee,

I am writing to express my heartfelt gratitude for SHPC’s generous support towards my education. Your kindness has given me the opportunity to pursue my academic dreams, and I am forever grateful.

SHPC’s assistance has not only invested in my education but has also given me hope for a brighter future. Growing up in a family that only knows how to read and write, and being able to find means to support the family which sometimes was difficult for many because of lack of education, I never thought that I would have the chance to be at where I am today. I promised myself to break every barrier of lack of success in my family and with your help and all the people you are workiing with I was able to reach “O” level and passed and furthermore reached Advanced “A” level also now am doing my logistics and supply chain management degree all thanks to you and your team. I am now many steps closer to achieving my goals.
South Highland’s generosity willl have a ripple effect on my family and community. I come from a background where education is highly valued, but often financial constraints limit our opportunities. Your support has broken this cycle, and I am confident that my education will empower me to make a positive impact on my family and community.

I want to assure you that I am committed to making the most of this opportunity. I will work hard to excel academically and use my knowledge and skills to give back to my community.
Once again, I would like to express by deepest gratitude for SHPC’s kindness. Your support has given me a second chance, and I am honored to be a recipient of your generosity.
Thank you for believing in me and investing in my future.
Sincerely,
Wilderness Nyirenda
